The story about Martha and Mary is often used to support the value of prayer and quite time with the Lord. However, it can also be viewed in terms of a guide to hospitality. Hospitality is something we strive for whether it is making people feel at ease in our homes, offices or parishes. Martha made sure everything was in perfect order and looking good. But there was one thing missing. Martha was so busy taking care of “things” that she forgot the guest! The most important part of hospitality is being “present” to your guests.
