The Gospel story of the woman caught in adultery presents us with quiet a challenge. Here is someone who has clearly violated the civil and moral laws and deserves the proscribed punishment of being stoned to death. Jesus does not defend the woman nor excuse her behavior. He does not say that the people have no right to be outraged and want to punish her. He simply says that the person with no sin should cast the first stone. We need to consider our own sinfulness and how the Lord has dealt with us before passing judgment on others. How might that awareness affect your attitudes toward others?
